Smile and Crewe & Nantwich RUFC turn up the heat ahead of family fun day

Sign up for our sponsored FireWalk.

Cheshire perinatal mental health charity, Smile Group, is teaming up with Crewe & Nantwich RUFC to host a free family fun day on Saturday 11th September.

Temperatures will rise for those with a penchant for adventure as the fun day will include a sponsored FireWalk over hot coals as well as a sponsored LegoWalk to test resilience (who hasn’t winced when stumbling over Lego left on the lounge floor?).

The event, which kicks off from 1pm with Men’s and Women’s 1XV matches respectively, will offer a host of fun and entertainment for all the family, including a BBQ, bouncy castle, raffle, stalls and refreshments. The LegoWalk begins at 5pm and the evening will wrap up with daredevil FireWalkers completing their challenge at 7pm.

Smile Group, which launched its fourth peer support group in Nantwich this year, offers a blend of services to support families across Cheshire East affected by perinatal mental health challenges. These include peer support, talk therapy and 1-1 support. The fun day is one of a series of events to celebrate the charity’s 10th anniversary and marks a community collaboration that will see any proceeds split 50/50 between the charity and the rugby club.

Those wanting to take on the challenge while raising valuable funds in the process, can sign up for the FireWalk and/or LegoWalk via https://www.cnrugby.uk/a/the-community-15847.html. There is a limit of 50 participants and full safety measures and guidance are provided by Guinness World Record holder, Scott Bell and the team from UK FireWalk. The sponsorship target for the FireWalk is £100 per person with a £30 deposit, in order to participate in the challenge, so those wishing to take on the scorching hot challenge are encouraged to sign up promptly!

Commenting on the event Ruth Williams said: “We’re thrilled to partner with Crewe & Nantwich RUFC for this family fun day as Smile is deeply rooted in the communities it supports so it’s a chance to raise awareness. I’ve always wanted to complete a FireWalk so I’m excited (and a bit nervous) to tick this off my list of life goals while fundraising for good causes!”

Jorge Richards from Crewe & Nantwich RUFC added: “The FireWalk is the chance to develop your courage, determination and willpower in aid of a fantastic cause and it promises to be an experience that will live long in memory.”
